THE CHURCH HOUSE
Don’t you long for just one night away from the city? To escape the hustle of work and city life?
I personally love the country as a getaway. The fresh country air in my lungs, the silence, the trees and open land! Hello, my heaven!
My recent find and the perfect escape is The Church House.
The Church House in Fish Creek offers the perfect luxury accommodation near Wilsons Prom. A leisurely 15 minutes drive and your there at the entrance of this most southern National park ready to explore the bounty of beaches, fauna and flora and the many scenic walks before returning to the quiet and comfort of this spacious, stylish and unique residence to enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching the sunset over the hills.
Doesn’t that sound like bliss!?!
Perched on the top of the rolling hills in South Gippsland with views of Wilsons Promontory National Park, The Church House build was featured in Grand Designs Australia Series 1 episode 7. You might recognise this beauty from the show! It’s a stunning masterpiece.
The Church House is the perfect luxury accommodation to have that special celebration or to simply relax and reconnect with nature.
Set in their 20-acre property amid some of Victoria’s most stunning natural vistas your hosts Peter and Mary Riedel, invite you to experience their genuine personal hospitality tailored to your needs.
The Church House Gourmet retreat offers guests the choice of continental and cooked breakfast. In-house dining showcasing their own and local food & wine is also available.
The Dinner they cooked for me was amazing! So don’t be shy, I suggest dinner at the House.
The 3 rooms available are unique and special. Each being so very different in theme but compliment one another and the house.
Oh, did I mention they have a hot tub?
Why not unwind with a glass of wine at the end of the day in the hot tube.
Or simply sit on the deck and enjoy the simple sounds of the country.
For those wondering about how a church ended up on the hill and became a B&B, this is the story…
St Georges Anglican Church originally built in 1876 in Royal Park Melbourne had to be sold and removed or it was to go to the wreckers and be torn down and lost forever to make way for new housing. At a farm clearance auction in 2009, Peter and Mary fell in love with the structural remains of the church and the potential of using the wonderful timbers in a rebuild on their property at Fish Creek.
So began the journey of relocating and rebuilding from what they could salvage of the dismantled church. The rebuild, mixing the vaulted ceiling rafters, trusses, timber flooring and doors from St Georges Church with their own unique style is now a spacious, stylish residence renamed “The Church House”. It was featured in Grand Design Season 1 Episode 7.
Peter and Mary open their home to guests all year round. Even Christmas!
It was a pure delight getting to know Mary while I stayed. Peter and Mary’s hospitality was like walking into a family. We literally fell in love with them. They made us feel very at home and comfortable in their home. I can’t thank you enough for a wonderful stay. Was exactly what I needed.
I love a sneaky getaway or adventure and being only a couple of hours out of Melbourne. It was a breeze to get to but while there it felt like miles away from my troubles. Exactly how a getaway should feel.
Do yourself a favour and check out The Church House next time you need a getaway.
